Suzanne wanted to use our dandelion wedding invitation but had a few ideas of her own. Using that as a basis she wanted the grey replaced with a bright aqua/turquoise colour. I’m not sure if it is a blue or a green but whatever you call it – it looked stunning. To be honest I had my doubts when she first suggested it but voila! Its turned our great.

Telling people where to go – adding a map.

She also wanted to have a map drawn using the same colours that she had used in the invitation. She supplied a reference (google maps) and I created a version that suited the invite. maps are alot of work but a clear map can be a great help to your guests.

All tied up – using a band to tie it all together

Finally I produced a band that with the add of some double sided tape, is wrapped around the various elements that made up the wedding stationery set and held them all together. This is a simple but stylish way to show off your invites. She used our mail merge option to have her guest’s names printed on the band as well – a nice touch.

The bands are printed on paper (as opposed to card) so that they can easily wrap around the other elements.

It’s not very often we get a client brave enough to go with a blind emboss! A blind emboss is like a regular emboss in which a plate is made and this plate is pressed into the paper during the printing process. However in the case of a blind emboss, no ink is applied to the plate and the only effect in a dented but otherwise unprinted piece of paper.

James and Renee came up with the idea of featuring an “&” as the unifying graphic on their wedding stationery. I produced a slip envelope to house their wedding invitation which was embossed on both sides. On one side was a large “&” with their names in lower case as picture above and on the other side was a small “&” with their names printed beneath.

The result was an invite that was elegant and sophisticated and very upmarket – just the result they were hoping for.

The invites themselves featured a small “&” which could be seen in through the die cut.

The wedding invitations only used one font – the very simple, but up market Gill Sans (again, their idea). When you pulled free the invitation, there was a small calendar and the wedding details printed in black and white on a 350gsm white card. no colour was used but the result was amazing. they were dream clients with impeccable taste.

Ink invites has just received a makeover and the new and improved site is now up and running. Return visitors will notice that some of the less popular designs have been removed, new designs added and now each invitation is available in more than one format. Hopefully the site is easier to navigate and the pricing structure, easier to understand. In addition, many of the wedding invitations that remained have received a makeover; sometimes just a tweak of the fonts, at other times new images and new layouts have been used.

As part of the upgrade, I have increased the size of the product shots and added a Facebook button so people are able to share the designs they like with their friends and ask for feedback.

On the printing side we have upgraded our paper stock from 300gsm to 350gsm so our invitations are really sturdy. Nobody wants a flimsy wedding invitation!

Unfortunately though we are experiencing some teething problems. Particularly with Internet Explorer users. I designed the whole thing on a Mac and when viewed with Safari it looks great. I have only just discovered that the menu at the top is not working correctly for Explorer users. I’ve got someone to work on ironing out the bugs so hopefully be Wednesday it will be sweet.

Who said us Kiwis aren’t patrotic? Some of our best selling invites feature kiwiana touchstones like paua, pohutukawas, nikau palms and toi-tois. Because of this we have expanded our kiwiana range to include more formats and more colour options. The majority of New Zealand weddings take place in summer and many of these are held outdoors. The beach is always popular and being surrounded by water there a number to choose from.

New Zealand beach weddings

If you want to incorporate a bit of New Zealand into your beach wedding, we suggest our Paua invite. Paua is our most famous shell and polishes up beautifully. The blues and greens are beautiful and provide a bright splash of colour that can be incorporated elsewhere in the wedding decorations.

Another invite that might work well for those getting married at a beach is our Pohutukawa and Bellbird invite. Pohutukawas bloom in summer (hence their English name – New Zealand Christmas Tree) and can be found on many New Zealand coastlines.

Invites featuring iconic New Zealand Flora

Only a New Zealander could love a cabbage tree! Even the name sounds less than appealing but for reasons beyond me – it has become a Kiwi favourite. Right up there with the toi-toi, nikau palm and silver fern (okay – may be not quite the silver fern). We have designed a range called the New Zealand Foorest which features all of these. Check it out.

Another popular invite that features an iconic New Zealand tree is our Nikau invite. The beauty of this invite is that you can request it any colour you like.
